SM Fashion Design Exhibition DIG:IN

The news I am introducing this time is about the graduation show and exhibition of the Fashion Design Department at Sangmyung University's Cheonan Campus. First, let me provide an explanation of the Fashion Design Department before delving into the details of the graduation show and exhibition. Sangmyung University Cheonan Campus Fashion Design major is a fashion design major that fosters future-oriented fashion leaders who combine creativity and expertise.
DIG:IN on displayed this time refers to the act of immersing yourself in one thing, deeply digging into the field of interest, and immersing yourself in it. It is said that the collection was prepared to show students' efforts and passion to form a "real self" in the era of "multipersona." It also has a dual meaning that can be expressed in my own way through a period of inspiration and growth after a hard and exhausting period.
A total of 20 students from Sangmyung University's Fashion Design Department took part.Majors Jang Jin-woo, Kim Chae-yoon, Buck Se-won, Kang Sang-hyuk, Han Mi-na, Kim Chae-hyun, Han Soo-hyun, Deung Ja-geol, Lee Seung-yeon, Um Yu-jin, Lee Min-ju, Lee Geon-ho, Seo Cho Seo-jin, Han So-ah, Lee Yun-ju, Lee Ji-won, Jeon Hyuk-jin, Heo Su-yeon, Yoon Ye-rin and Lee Jung-yoon, participated in the exhibition.
In this graduation exhibition, 40 fashion works expressing each individuality through a combination of various genres such as preppy looks, funk looks, cybercore, and traditional costumes were displayed.
Twenty students set a concept that suits their style, formed a team, and presented their works in a total of six teams. The name of each piece is 1. BLACK FLAG, 2. Coup d’Etat, 3. Immatoff, 4. L.I(Live in Infinity), 5. auxo, 6. CORRUPTION. I will select some of these works and introduce and explain them.
BLACK FLAG
The meaning of BLACK FLAG is that World War III occur in the wake of the unidentified nuclear explosion and the existing Seoul becomes a ruin. The concept is that Seoul will become a society of drugs, violence, and corruption and become a dystopia of anarchy that loots each other. This situation expressed the guerilla group's clothing in a Korean dystopian situation with funk and guerillasclothing as the next generation of anarchists about post-apocalypse-style wars.
Coup d’Etat
Coup d'Etat's concept is a Mongolian student anti-establishment movement. Held in July every year in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, all Mongolians, regardless of gender and age, participate in the Naadam Festival, which has a religious meaning to pray for the growth and abundance of livestock that are important in nomadic life. However, it has been suspended due to COVID-19. If it is held again, it is a new expression of the anti-regime movement clothing of young Mongolian students in the sense of developing traditional clothing with street funk and preppy clothing rather than conservative traditional clothing.
auxo
The concept of auxo is coral reefs. Coral reefs areparticularly vulnerable ecosystems because they are sensitive to water temperature. Climate change, acidification of the ocean, blast fishing, and other factors cause excessive algal growth, damaging coral reefs and causing bleaching. Auxo is to send a positive message and hope that we can overcome and recover from the bleaching phenomenon to find our own color.
Style is an ironic combination of workwear and coral. The concept style is expressed by combining the workwear that has overcome the difficult human history with oxidation by comparing it to the appearance of 'us'. The natural romantic style that can express the atypical shape of a coral and the rough style of the workwear met, and we developed a new romantic workwear design to combine two completely different styles.
Interview with fashion design professors and students
"In this graduation fashion show, you can see various viewpoints and new fashion through which each student looks at the design topics presented in the rapidly changing era of chaos," said Yeom Hye-soo, a fashion design professor who led the design field.
Lee Jung-jin, a fashion design professor who led the field of pattern making, said, "Through various attempts and experiments, you can appreciate works that show students' creativity and talent."
Professor Han Ah-young, head of the fashion design major, said, "We expect students to grow into the next generation of fashion talents through the valuable experience of fashion shows and exhibitions prepared with passion and their best efforts.“
Jang Jin-woo, chairman of the Graduation Preparation Committee, said, "I am happy to present the graduation exhibition on the campus following the fashion show I prepared for a year," adding, "I would like to thank the professors for guiding me to finish the graduation exhibition following the fashion show."
Compared to last year's graduation exhibition, I could feel that there was a lot of difference. A year seemed very short, but when it comes to fashion, I was very surprised that a lot of things developed in a year, new trends came out, and students grew up with the trend of the times. I would like to express great respect and applause to the students who quickly adapted to these changes and moved forward. I'm looking forward to what kind of work will come out next year, and I expect leather clothes to come out. Finally, I applaud the students who will prepare for next year's show.
